LOOKHOME GREEN DESIGN AWARDS — ENTRANT TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  1. Entries in The LookHome Green Design Awards open at 9.00am AEST on 1 February 2010 and close at 5pm AEST on 9 July 2010.
  2. Judging will take place on Monday 2 August 2010 and the winners will be notified by email by 6 August 2010 and announced on www.lookhome.com.au on Monday 27 September 2010 and in the 2010 LookHome Design Annual available in October 2010.
  3. Entries must be made online at www.lookhome.com.au
  4. To be eligible for entry in an award category in the LookHome Green Design Awards, a project must:
      1. be a residential project (defined as involving the completion of any residential structure (including a shed or studio as defined in paragraph 8 below) whether new, restored, renovated, rehabilitated or converted) in Australia except for entries in the best shed or studio category (see clause 6e.) for which category both residential and non-residential projects will be eligible;
      2. non-residential projects will be eligible for an entry in the shed/studio category as long as they comply with clause 7
    1. have been completed after 31 December 2008;
    2. have achieved an energy rating of at least 5 stars (or in NSW be Basix—compliant); and
    3. must not have been entered as a completed project in an award category in the 2009 LookHome Green Design Awards.
  5. Projects which are at plan stage only or where construction has not been completed by 9 July 2010, are not eligible for entry in an award category but may be entered for consideration by the judges for a commendation judged against the same judging criteria as the awards.
  6. Projects may be entered in one of five award categories :
    1. best new home
    2. best display or demonstration home
    3. best medium density/townhouse development
    4. best renovation
    5. best shed or studio
  7. For the purposes of these awards, 'shed or studio' means a building primarily intended for human occupation whether that be for work, sleep, play or otherwise and does not include a building primarily intended for storage or housing service installations or plant or machinery. 'Medium density/townhouse development' means a group of two dwellings or more that are not more than four stories including parking.
  8. Entries for award categories a to d (as set out in clause 6) may be submitted by designers, architects, and registered builders. This includes individuals, groups, partnerships, and any size practices resident throughout Australia other than employees, and their immediate families, of LookHome Magazine and James Hardie and their providers and agencies associated with this promotion but excludes individuals acting as owner builders who are not otherwise a practicing architect or designer or registered builder.

    Entries for award category e &mdash best shed or studio — may be submitted by all of the above people and in addition, this category is not subject to the exclusion of owner builders or persons who are not a practicing architect, designer or registered builder. Any such person can therefore enter a design in award category e.
  9. There is no limit to the number of projects that may be entered by each entrant provided the entrant has designed and/or built the project entered.
  10. Each entrant indemnifies and holds harmless LookHome Magazine and James Hardie and their employees, partners and associates against any loss, costs (including legal fees) damages, claims or liability arising out of or in relation to the entrant's submission including but not limited to claims for infringement of intellectual property or moral rights.
  11. Each entry for an award category must:
    1. Include:
      1. a BASIX certificate, statement from a registered energy assessor or other appropriate documentation demonstrating the project achieves an energy rating of at least 5 stars (or in NSW be Basix—compliant);
      2. the required contact details;
      3. the required information on costs of construction and/or running and maintenance costs;
      4. at least 6 photographs of the project — showing the front perspective, back, and both sides as well as two of the interior;
      5. front and side elevations;
      6. floor plans;
      7. a description of the client brief (or target client if a display/demonstration home) and a summary of how the project met that brief); and
      8. at least 250 words of explanatory text as to how the design meets the judging criteria
    2. Not include any offensive or inappropriate material.
  12. Entrants may also opt to include an optional additional video explaining how the design meets the judging criteria.
  13. Important Note: Entries must not include and will be invalid if they include more than 20 images in total (including photographs, elevations, sections, details and plans) or include more than 1000 words of explanatory text.
  14. One winner in each award category will be chosen by an expert panel that includes:
    1. Robert Caulfield, Strategic Marketing Director, CKDesignworks
    2. Sue Harris, Publisher, Architecture Media Pty Ltd
    3. Noel Dyett, Managing Director, Curnow Dyett
    4. Steve Pisani, National Demand Manager for James Hardie
    5. Ralph Horne, Director, Centre for Design, RMIT
  15. All entries will be judged against the extent to which, in the judges opinion, the project entered:
    1. is designed using materials chosen with regard to their embodied energy, and impact on energy efficiency, the health of occupants and the site on which the home is built;
    2. meets the client (or target client if a display/demonstration home) brief;
    3. incorporates lightweight construction;
    4. addresses affordability in cost of construction and/or running and maintenance costs; and
    5. demonstrates an innovative approach to design.
  16. If the winning project in a category has been entered by more than one party, the winner will be the first person to have entered that project.
  17. One entry in each category will also be determined as the winner of the Popular Choice Award according to which entry in each category receives the most on line votes before entries close on 9 July 2009. Obviously, the earlier a project is entered, the earlier it will be possible for it to receive on line votes. In this regard, James Hardie will use its reasonable endeavours to display all valid entries on www.lookhome.com.au within 3 business days of the entry being logged on line.
  18. The winners in each category, as adjudged by the experts, will receive:
    1. a trip for 2 to Greenbuild 2010 — the world's biggest green building conference in Chicago, US from November 16 - 19 2010 including: economy class return airfares from their nearest Australian capital city to the United States, 4 nights accommodation (from Nov 16 to 19) including breakfast in a four star hotel and tickets to both the Greenbuild conference and optional Green Homebuilder Day, in total valued at over A$10,000.

      Important Note: Spending money, meals and beverages, taxes, additional nights, room upgrades, travel insurance, passports, visas, transport to and from departure point, transfers, medical expenses, laundry, telephone calls, items of a personal nature and all other ancillary costs are the responsibility of the winner. It is a condition of accepting the prize that the winner may be requested to present their credit card upon arrival at the hotel to cover all incidentals they may incur including their stay at the hotel.

      The prize does not cover regional flights or any flights/accommodation or other costs associated with travel to/from the winner's place of residence to point of departure. Any costs associated with returning to the winner's place of residence and all other ancillary costs other are at their own expense.

      If the prize winner is under the age of 18 years, the prize will be awarded to the winner's parent or legal guardian and the participant must be accompanied by their parent or guardian in redeeming the prize.

    2. A six page feature article on the winning project in the 2010 LookHome Design Annual valued at $23,955
  19. The Popular Choice winners in each category will win a five page feature article on the winning project in the 2010 LookHome Design Annual valued at $19,962.
  20. Five bonus prizes will be awarded by the LookHome™ team throughout the entry period, to the best entries (in the opinion of the LookHome team assessed against the award judging criteria) which feature Scyon™ or James Hardie® products.
  21. Each bonus prize consists of a double page spread in Houses magazine valued at $7,470 AND a five page feature article in the LookHome Design Annual 2010 valued at $19,962.
  22. The articles in Houses included in the each bonus prize will run at some time before Jun 2011 at the discretion of the LookHome team. The winners of the bonus awards will be chosen by 2 Aug 2010.
  23. If any prize or part thereof is unavailable for any reason, James Hardie reserves the right to substitute the prize for a prize of equal or greater value at its discretion.
  24. Prizes must be taken as offered and are not redeemable for cash. Prizes are not transferable. If a prize winner does not take up a prize for any reason, James Hardie may at its discretion, award the prize to the next placed entrant in the relevant category or decide not to award the prize at all.
  25. Entrants consent to LookHome magazine and James Hardie providing information on all winning entries to other architectural magazines, newspapers and relevant media Australia wide.
  26. By submitting an entry, the entrant grants LookHome Magazine and James Hardie permission to publish all material and particulars of and relating to the successful projects, including the judges' report. The names and addresses of private residential clients will not be published.
  27. Incomplete or incomprehensible entries will be deemed invalid. LookHome and James Hardie exclude all liability and responsibility for lost, late or misdirected entries or for entrants' inability for any reason to lodge entries by the due date whether due to technical problems with the LookHome website or otherwise.
  28. James Hardie's decision in relation to any aspects of the competition is final and binding on every person who enters and no correspondence will be entered into.
  29. James Hardie may cancel, terminate, modify or suspend this competition or these terms and conditions for any reason whatsoever at its discretion without any liability to any party.
  30. If for any reason this competition is not capable of running as planned, including due to infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorised intervention, fraud, technical failures or any other causes beyond the control of James Hardie which corrupt or affect the administration security, fairness or integrity or proper conduct of this promotion, James Hardie reserves the right in its sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the competition.
  31. James Hardie reserves the right at its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual who tampers with the entry process or who otherwise corrupts or affect the administration, security, fairness or integrity or proper conduct of this competition.
  32. James Hardie and its related bodies corporate and their officers, employees and agents will not be liable for any loss, damage or personal injury whatsoever (including but not limited to direct or consequential loss) suffered or sustained in connection with this competition, the promotion of this competition or the use of any prize, except for and to the extent of any liability which cannot be excluded by law.
  33. Winners of prizes are responsible for any tax implications associated with accepting the prize and should consider obtaining financial advice.
  34. All entries become the property of James Hardie. By entering the promotion, unless otherwise advised, each entrant also agrees that James Hardie may use this information, in any media for future promotional, marketing and publicity purposes without any further reference, payment or other compensation to the entrant.
  35.
